Marathi is also known as the Maharashtri language, a member of the Indo-Aryan branch belonging to the Indo-European language family.  Marathi being the primary language in the state of Maharashtra is closely related to other languages especially Hindi and Punjabi.

The language of Maharashtra is derived from Sanskrit through a Prakrit dialect in the 1st – 2nd centuries AD called the Maharashtri as mentioned above.  It gradually evolved as Marathi during the 15th and 16th centuries.

In 2001, around 7,19,36,894 people use to speak Marathi as its their mother tongue and in 200, the count increased to 6.86%  where around 8,30,26,680 people (42565803 – Male and 40460877 – Female) used Marathi as their native language by given due importance to the language.

There were about 53,879 people who spoke Are language as per the 2011 census are widely spread in the Solomon Islands earlier.   It is estimated that there are seven dialects with no technical written standards.

There was a dictionary earlier written in Are language by Peter Geerts but it doesn’t have any details on pronunciation, grammar or sound systems of the language  which has made the understanding of the language complex.

Koli is spoken in the districts of Thane and Nashik.   The dialects are easy where the people of the Koli tribe can easily communicate in Marathi or Gujarati.  The Koli language is written in the scripts of Devanagiri and Gujarati.

Marathi is spoken in Maharashtra as the official language and in Goa as a co-official language.  According to the 2011 census, 8,2801,140 speakers acquired Marathi as their native language.

There are two sounds of Marathi letters whereas in Hindi there is only one and it varies in pronunciations but since Marathi and Hindi uses the same writing script in Devanagari, it will be easy to write Hindi and Marathi.

Unlike Arunachal Pradesh where Hindi is replacing the local tongues, Marathi is spoken widely in the communities in Maharashtra.  It has been dependent on other languages like Pardhi, Kaikadi, Lamani, Bhoi, with around 1,57,852 people speaking these languages.
